Pier Lamia “Mia” Porter is quickly becoming known as one of Boston’s most engaging and versatile artists. An active performer on both musical theater and opera stages, Mia was recently featured as a soloist in MassOpera’s popular “July 4th Social DistanSing”, a traveling program bringing socially-distant live performances to a variety of Boston neighborhoods.

Over the past several seasons, Mia has given standout performances in musicals at companies large and small. Don Aucoin of The Boston Globe called her performance as Chiffon in Lyric Stage Company’s Little Shop of Horrors “top-notch” and the show’s “secret weapon.” Jules Becker praised her performance as Sarah in Wheelock Family Theatre’s Ragtime as “affecting and vulnerable” in the Jewish Journal. Mia has also appeared as Richard Henry Lee in Austin Pendleton’s non-traditionally cast 1776 at New Repertory Theatre, Marie Knight in Greater Boston Stage Company’s Marie and Rosetta, Moon/Washing Machine in Moonbox Productions’ Caroline or Change, Ethel Toffelmier in Reagle Music Theatre’s The Music Man, and many others.

A classically-trained soprano, Mia recently “made her mark” as Ida in MASSOpera’s Die Fledermaus (Megan McCormick, The Theatre Times). Additionally, she has performed a variety of beloved opera roles, including Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro with International Lyric Academy of Rome, Lady Billows in Albert Herring as a guest artist at Montclair State University, and Micaëla in Carmen with University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

Mia has also provided live backup vocals for acclaimed pop music artists Mariah Carey, Clint Holmes, and Bubba Knight.

In addition to performing, Mia has developed a career as a producer. Recently, she co-produced Songs for a New World, presented by Umbrella Stage Company as a fundraiser for The Front Porch Arts Collective, a Boston theater company focused on the Black experience. Mia also appeared as a featured soloist in the production. This season, she is excited to join the New York-based production company Cisco & Co. as an Associate Producer.

Mia is a member of Varga Voice Studio (Dr. Dana Varga) and has studied dance at ABC Studio and Arthur Murray Dance Studio. Originally from Las Vegas, NV, Mia attended the University of Nevada-Las Vegas where she received her BM in Vocal Performance, and has also undertaken graduate studies in Voice Performance at the Longy School of Music of Bard College.
